1. Date of event

The regatta will take place in July from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th, 1998 at Viry -Châtillon, France

2. Venue

The event will be held in Viry -Châtillon , 25Km in the south of Paris

3. Organizing Authority

The Open World Championship Marblehead Class is organized by the, CLUB NAUTIQUE DE VIRY-CHATILLON(C.N.V.) in conjunction with Municipality of VIRY-CHATILLON under the authority of Federation Française de Voile and under the overall authority of ISAF-RSD.

4. Rules

The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing for 1997-2000 (RRS) Appendix E, the Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions (SI), the International Class Administration Rules and the International Marblehead Class Rules. The english language shall be the official language of the event.

5. Eligibility

The competition is open to Marblehead Class boats selected to represent recognized member Countries of the ISAF-RSD. Appendix K1 applies.

6. Registration

All yachts together with their current valid measurement certificates shall be presented for registration before 13:00 hours, July 12th, 1998. No boat shall be eligible to race until it has been registered and check measured for the event.

7. Event Category

The Championship is classified under RRS Appendix G3 Category A. Each competitor may be required to wear a bib provided by the Organizing Authority at all times whilst racing which may carry advertisements for the Events Sponsors.

8. Scoring and Racing System

Scoring will be carried out in accordance with the Heat Racing System 98 (HRS98).

9. Sailing Instructions

Sailing instructions will be available at registration.

10. Rule Changes

RRS Flag signals shall not apply and may be substituted by : ‘sound signals confirmed by verbal instruction’.

RRS E4.5 delete 28.1 (For rule books published in 1997)

RRS E4.5 delete 30 (For rule books and amendments to rules books published in 1998)

RRS 30 will be applied to the re-start of any heat that has had one general recall.

RRS E4.9 Individual recall : RRS29.2 is changed. Delete all after’the race committee shall promptly’ and insert :twice hail ’’Recall (sail number/s)... .’’

RRS E6.2 is replaced by the following :

Rule 61.1(a) is changed to : A boat intending to protest another boat because of an incident that occurs in the racing area shall twice hail :

’’(Her sail number) ‘Protests’(the other boat’s sail number/s)’’

at the first reasonable opportunity.In all other cases she inform the other boat as soon as reasonaly possible.’’

RRS E1 Is replaced by :

‘Boat’ means a boat that is radio-controlled by a competitor who is not on board. For ‘race’ used as a noun outside of this appendix read ‘heat’ except in A1.3, A1.5, A1.7, A2.1, A2.2, A2.3, A4 & A5.

Within this appendix, a race consists of one or more heats, and is completed when the last heat in the race is finished. ‘Event’ means one or more races. ‘Series’ means the number of races actually completed within the times spcified in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions for one complete event or a number of linked events.

Changes to the Sailing Instruction whilst the event is running

Changes to the SI shall not be made without either, in order of preference:

a) The written approval of ISAF RSD Permanent Committee members present at the event, or

b) By prior fax communication to the Chairman of the ISAF RSD RRC and the safe receiving back of his faxed approval.

Any such change shall be posted in writing upon the official Notice Board and shall be implemented only between races. Two sound signals shall be made to gather the competitors’ attention and an official announcement shall then follow. The course board shall also have the SI change written upon it for the duration of the following race.

Failure by the Racing Committee to observe this rule may cause the ISAF RSD to withdraw their recognition of the Championship.

11. Entries

Entry is open to all Division Members in good standings with the ISAF-RSD. Entries must be made by the Division member only. The maximum number of entries will be 80 yachts. The initial place allocation are the following:

Entries shall include the Competitor Forms, giving names and other particulars of competitors, and must be submitted through the entrant's Division Member to Organization Committee before May 15th, 1998 to :

The entry fees per yacht will be 750FF (net of banking charges), and must be crossed cheque or International money order to

No kind of credit cards are accepted in the Race Office.

The fees include the levy payable to the ISAF-RSD.

Application for entry forms not accompanied by the appropriate fees, or sent LATER THAN THE MAY 15th PRESCRIBED DATE SHALL NOT BE REGARDED AS VALID APPLICATIONS.

Each Division member can make extra entries on appropriate extra entry form before may 15th (without fees).

Reallocations of initial allocations not taken by Division members will be according to

ISAF-RSD Objectives and Directives for Championships. Extra entrants accepted will be informed not later June 1st 1998 : fees for extra entries must be submitted before june 15th

12. Measurement

The Race Committee may request at any time that the Event Measurer checks that a boat remains within class rules.

13. Jury

There will be a full International Jury conforming to ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing Appendix Q. The decision of the Jury shall not be subject to appeal. (RRS 70.4)

14. Frequencies

Permitted frequencies are:

Each competitor is required to have a minimum of six frequencies available.

15. Prizes and Trophies

Trophies to the ten (10) best competitors.

Participation prizes to all competitors.

16. Liability

Competitors compete at own risk and responsibility
